Kimi Raikkonen will replace Michael Schumacher at Ferrari when the German retires at the end of the season, the team have confirmed.

The 26-year-old Finn, who leaves McLaren after five years, was finally confirmed as one of their 2007 drivers in the wake of Schumacher's announcement that he will walk away from the sport in three races time.

Ferrari confirmed the news in a statement after the Italian Grand Prix.

The team's technical director Ross Brawn said: "After Michael told us he was thinking about leaving the sport, we looked at all the drivers who we thought represented the biggest potential.

"Kimi was the driver we thought would be the best person that fitted the bill and we're very happy to be gaining him in our team next season."

Raikkonen, who has started 110 Grands Prix and won nine of them, has signed a three-year-deal with the team and will partner Brazilian Felipe Massa, 25, who has extended his contract to the end of 2008.
