Yes, and then I'll never drive it because of annoying electrical gremlins... :-)

And I did mention that "Ever since then my cars have been much better cars than I am a driver." I'm sure you or Karl could scare the daylights out of me in the 355. But I'm happy to spend $400/tire on the best Michelin Pilot Sports so I can tool around corners at about .55g.... :-p

If I know Charles, he'll track down that original 280ZX 2+2 and then pump
decent-360 money into it to recreate his college memories - not just
restoring it, but sticking a twin turbo 300Z motor in it, an active
suspension from an early Infiniti Q45, the HICAS 4-wheel steering from the
300Z, new shag seat covers, fuzzy dice on the mirror, etc.

Mostly because that car was just as good a sports car as I was a driver at
the time

So, Chuckles, are you saying that you're as good a driver as the 355 Spider
that you have now?

Great thread, Ken!!

I've actually only ever owned two cars that I no longer have, mostly because
I recognized pretty early that I would regret parting with them. They really
become part of the family to me. My first car was a 77 Buick Regal (rugged
but holey survivor of multiple NY winters) that my grandmother sold me for
$1 when I first got my license. Great first car for a teen - powerful V8,
but not really that fast and solid enough to total anything that got in my
way.

My 2nd car, and the one that I wish I'd kept was a 1982 Datsun/Nissan 280ZX
2+2. It was my first sports car, regardless of being way too heavy and
underpowered. Silver with a black/gray interior and t-tops. I loved that
car, and probably had more driving fun in that car than in any of the
dramatically better cars I have now. Mostly because that car was just as
good a sports car as I was a driver at the time, so I really could wring
everything out of that car and feel the thrill of being at 9.5/10ths. It had
a ridiculous sound system (since I was working at Crutchfield at the time)
and was with me for the first two years of college, so lots of road trip &
girlfriend memories. It was nearly perfect (a little rust) when I traded it
for the Corvette. Ever since then my cars have been much better cars than I
am a driver, so I'm always a little concerned about exceeding my ability and
damaging the cars.

There's a decent looking gold-colored 82 280ZX 2+2 Turbo languishing in a
junk lot near my house. I often consider buying it and restoring it to get
back the one I sold...

Ah, this is easy! The car I wish I never sold was my 66 Corvair Corsa.
Paid $175 for it because it was in a 'minor' accident with the right side
sideswiped and the engine made a terrible nosie because the flywheel
rivets were loose. I fixed it, massaged it, modified it, hot rodded it
and enjoyed driving it for about 8-9 years. I've owned a dozen Corvettes
and 7 Ferrari's since, but really missed that car.
So, about three months ago I bought another Corsa! This one is from
California, rust free and is a keeper this time.

Michael Scaglione
