I wrote a week or two ago: >I've been a member for some time, longer than most, but shorter than some. It's actually quite amusing to see how some trends work out. >There will be a lull in posts, and someone will lament the dearth of posts. >Then someone, quite possibly Jenkins, will say, jokingly, "hey, we need a watch/gun/gasoline price/dead cats" thread. [Jenkins starts this off with a comment about Porsches sucking and asking a question about BMWs] >Which will cause someone else to jump in and actually post one, just to stir things up. Say, "hey, what do you guys think about the new Panerai Ferrari watch", or "Don't you think that .40S&W is the commonly accepted carry round today?" or "Those ba$t [at] rd oil companies are screwing the common man by conspiring to keep gas prices high." >Which invites a round of comments from the usual suspects (me included, all too often). [a few of us post about Porsche v Ferrari, then about BMW and MB] >Dr Ken will have a hilarious but totally OT post about how the liberals ruined said watch/gun/cat-killing-mechanism. [Dr Ken talks about his BMW, and why in Red America you need a big ubersedan] >Brian will agree with the point about the watch/gun, but insist that high prices for said watch/gun are perfectly reflective of fair market value. [Brian weighs in not just about Porsches, but also on BMW M5s, and how . . . His insanely high price for the M5 he has for sale is perfectly rational] >Dennis will take the time to write an incredibly long-winded, detailed, footnoted 17 page dissertation, demonstratively showing how Tom/Lashdeep/Paul/Mark/Brian much, categorically, absolutely, papally must be wrong about the conspiracy, but no one reads it because it's much too boring. [Dennis does a write up showing how Brian's comment about heavy cars and manual transmissions is entirely wrong, and proceeds to analyze in detail why AMG is for wussies] >Handa, who actually does read it, goads Dennis on. [yup!] >clyDe will point out that Brian's notions of FMV are always insanely too high. [pretty much dead on!] >Jim will agree with clyDe. [Jim weighs in on BMWs and transmissions] >Willi will jump back and make a totally gratuitous tear at clyDe. [pretty much dead on!] >clyDe will laugh it off. [wait for it....] ======================= Any chance we can nip this one in the bud? Ok, too late for that, but let's talk instead about the GP of China - less than three days away! >THEN THE CYCLE STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN. Vty, --Dennis
