OK Willi - what are old roomies for, eh? According to my Spyder's Carrera
engine assembly manual - and depending of course which carbs good old James
had - most likely the Solex 40 PII-4, - - - "The correct idling speed is
approximately 800 to 900 RPM." Followed by the omni-present warning - "In
no event should idle mixture screws be left turned full in." Gosh, no.
As I recall - your engine was so hot it wouldn't idle below 2000. Gawd that was a fun car - remember the time coming around a nice sweeping bend a mother and her kid were in the cross walk and she grabbed her kid and pulled back onto the sidewalk for safety?!! Heh heh - and noisy too.
