Thanks, cLyDe. The reason I'm asking is that an acquaintance is updating his
book about the death of James Dean. Most people think that Dean went through
downtown Bakersfield before turning west on Hwy. 466 to reach Hwy.101 to get to
Salinas and the races that day in 1957. There was s shortcut turnoff a few
miles south of Bakersfield that allowed you to bypass the city entirely, which
I used on my way to and from school in San Jose many times. It was a 2 lane
blacktop that you could drive at 100 mph with no sweat with no stop signs,
signals that you would encounter driving through Bakersfield. I think that if
Dean had a high (lower) rev limit, and to save his clutch, he probably used the
shortcut turnoff. The only people who would know are Dean, his mechanic, Lance
Reventlow, and Bruce Kessler. Lance and Bruce were driving up to the races in
Lance's Gullwing Coupe, and they met the 550 Spyder for cokes at a place called
Blackwells Corner on 466. 20 minutes later, James Dean w
as dead. All the others were killed later, with the exception of Kessler. I
don't know whether he's still alive. Alas, there is a reason That I want to
know.

Does anybody out there know the minimum rpms that were recommended for the
4-cam
1956 1500cc Porsche Spyder with a 6200 rpm redline? I had a 1963 Porsche coupe
that had a Super engine with a Hurth roller-bearing crank, solid rods with two
big 2-throat Solex carbs on it that had a 2,000 minimum rpm limit. TIA.
