Another option is to try AVG at www.grisoft.com where you can download the 
personal user version for free - it take some hunting to find the link to 
the free anti-virus package - it's near the bottom of the page IIRC.  I've 
been using it for several months and I have had zero problems.  I ran Norton 
for 10 years +/- and their frustrating tweaks that caused enough problems 
that I looked for &  found an alternative which works perfectly.  It also 
updates itself with out any user input.

It has not let any agents or virus through.
