Hi Britt,
As a 77 it might get in under the 25 year rule in some states which lets cars over 25 years old escape the emissions laws. I believe the safety standards must still be met although I seem to recall a one time rule allowing someone to import a non-conforming car one in 10 years and it doesn't need to meet any regulations. I'll have to check this out though.
Having said all that, I believe you;re right about demand - and one of the best ways to market something like this is Hemmings Market News - basically a monthly magazine of 700 pages or so featuring *any* car related thing worldwide for sale. The latest issue has a restored 73 Tr Stag for $15K but it has an automatic transmission which probably depresses the price somewhat.
You can place an ad and see what response you get - its an internation magazine so there may be some buyers local to you interested.
Of course, there's several internet based "For Sale" which I'm sure you know about. Also, the Yahoo webpage will probably have a Triumph Stag group that will probably have some enthusiasts looking for Stags.
Good luck! BTW, I'd like to find a nice Tr GT6 - the poor mans XKE - but I'll probably find one locally.

Guys,
I have found myself with a 1977 Triumph Stag. Red/Black and in great
condition. With hardtop and softtop. Original V8 and all. Anybody know anybody who
wants one? I heard through the Ferrari UK grapevine that there was great demand
for these in the states though whether it can be imported to the USA as easily
as I can import into the UK I do not know.
Anybody interested?
