Been there.
[Rant]The E39 radiator expansion tank hose fitting cracks without exception between 50 - 65K. This is because the Germans are in love with recycling, and use recycled parts including recycled plastic coolant tanks which become brittle after 'n' heating/cooling cycles and crack. Seems to me it would be a more efficient use of resources to make the damn things right in the first place than to make parts that must be replaced several times over the life of the car. [/Rant]

E39 BMW's (525,528,530,540 1997-2003) are also notorious for failure of the

aluminum) between 40,000 and 60,000.

Neither should a $50k car...B5 Audis need front control arms replaced
regularly as did the legendary E30 BMWs. When did suspension pieces become
routine maintenance? Can't these Euro manufacturers figure out a way to
make a bushing/control arm design that lasts?
For some reason, we put up with it...public perception is very powerful.
It makes us scrutinize a Lotus Esprit or a Dodge, yet overlook the same
ridiculous failures on a Honda or Benz.
Was this type of mind control what Koresh had in mind? He should've consulted an automotive marketing dept.

I've noticed that most of the articles in Sport Car market seem to lean
towards poo pooing Ferrari ownership in general. Why not publish an
article that is more objective about ownership costs? Guess that doesn't
sell magazines? Almost everything in that article was voluntary repair.
The only real issues were mostly covered by warranty. The ones that
weren't were not anymore money than taking a mercedes or some other high
end car in for service. I'd like to see an article from someone that has
one currently or just got rid of one.

Interesting article.
