Michael,
You definitely don't have to own the latest model to be "accepted." And if that was true you wouldn't want to be accepted by those type of people with that kind of attitude anyway. You are obviously a car guy, and the first time purchase of a car that is unfamiliar to you can be daunting and a little nerve wracking. Especially when there is so much bad information going around by "experts" who claim major services are $10,000, etc. But when you are looking for something specific like a specific year of 328, you most certainly will have to go outside of the city you live in to find one. And you have to find someone you trust and feel comfortable with to assist you in the search and / or purchasing process. Feel free to call my office to discuss the 328, the market, or just cars in general. My # is 812-476-2281 x 209. If you haven't seen the ads for it yet, I also have an 88.5 328 in inventory ... you haven't been on the list long enough to understand the meaning of a "Clyde price," but let's just say that you will undoubtedly hear from some list members who will offer advice on what they think a car should cost, but have no suggestion on where to find something at their opinion of a fair price. Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Good luck in the search!

I am new to the Ferrari world, my past cars have been fun but I am still
missing something and I think a Ferrari is that missing link. My other
cars have included a 1995 Porsche 911 turbo, 1999 Corvette and my pride
and joy a 1968 Jaguar E-Type.

I have anjoyed all of these cars and I still own the E-Type but I have
decided to look for a 88'-89' 328 GTS, I thought this would be a fairly
easy process since there are many out there to choose from but I am
really struggling with this purchase. I am in Houston Texas so I decided
this morning to go to Ferrari of Houston...big mistake, I might as well
have been asking the salesman to look at a Kia because he instantly
turned his nose up at me and said that he doesn't deal in these cars and
the best place to look is Ferrarilist.com. I have heard this about the
dealers that basically have the attitude that older Ferraris are the
volkswagon of the line but I didn't expect to be scoofed at
immediately...oh well, no harm no foul.

So I am here...

I have done my research (at least as much as I could find on the
internet) but I have yet to find any owners to talk to in the area that
can shed some light on who I can trust in Houston to inspect any
prospective cars that I may find, or offer any advice on the 328. I am
not limited to the Houston area, I don't care where the car is as long
as it is within the continental US, which brings to mind another
problem, if I buy a car outside the state who can I trust in whatever
state I may be looking? I am not looking for the cheapest 328, I would
preffer a car that I can trust and a car that is perfect or almost
perfect. My budget is around $50K...now before you say...hey go look at
the 348 or the TR, I REALLY like the style of the 328, nothing against
the other models but they are just not for me at this stage. I like the
older styling and the lines of the 328.

The only other problem I have is that I have never driven a 328, I have
looked everywhere to try to test drive one but the only opportunities I
have seen have been out of state and with my schedule that makes things
a little tough.

Any advice? Do I have to buy the latest model to be accepted???
