Hey Stewart! Hope you are doing well.
I am by no means an IT expert, although I am the defacto IT guy in my office.
Everytime we have had connectivity problems as you describe, it is due to one of two things:
1) Anti-virus/spyware software like McAfee performing firewall functions without asking if I wanted them or
2) Windows own built-in firewall (new to WinXP / Vista) blocking other machines within an internal network.
I can't tell you how to turn them off without knowing which you have, but my first suggestion would be to disable Vista's firewall and/or whatever anti-virus system's firewall and see if that faxes it. Then you can re-enable the firewalls if you want on a piece-meal basis. On our system I've just left them off entirely since everyone within our network trusts each other and our internet firewall is through our router.
Good luck!

Subject: [Ferrari] NFC - Vista networking problem...
Sorry guys for the NFC i am stuck and not getting answers from surfing the web....
I have an existing Win2K peer-to-peer network (under a workgroup, not a domain) that has been running smoothly - with the DHCP managed by a Linksys wireless router.
I just added two VISTA (home) machines with wireless NIC to the system, the machines are uniquely named and the same workgroup name as the Win2K PCs.
The usernames/PWs are set up appropriately on all the Win2K PCs - so the Vistas should have permission to at least "see" their existence.
The Vista PCs can see one another but not any of the Win2K PCs. The Win2K PCs can see all the Win2K PCs but not the Vista PCs.
It should not be a DHCP issue since the Vista PCs can see each other as well as having internet access.
What does it take to get them to see and talk to one another? My file server is in the Win2K group and the Vista PCs need to be able to access the files.
Thanks!!!
