Re: NFC: Camaro SS post mortem

HOLY CRAP!

I'm offline for less than two days while I tap-dance for some Wall St.
analysts in NYC, and when I check my FList mail it's Camaro Fever! Fuzzy
dice alert!

Does this take the record as the longest NFC thread in FList history? This
must be what happens in the "perfect storm" when you combine a list member
who always replies to every FList post and a subject with him at the center
of it. :)

Tom - I love ya, man - but either buy the Camaro or don't. Or buy a Boxster
or don't. Or buy a 308GT4 or don't. Just remember Newton's first law of
motion: "An objects at rest tends to stay at rest, and an object in motion
tends to stay in motion..."

The F1 season starts in two weeks. There will be NO Camaros, NSXs, or
Boxsters in the field AFAIK.

"Post mortem" indeed. This "post" is "mortem." Let's let it RIP.

And while I'm busting out initials... and before you buy a Boxster, just
remember my mantra:

PS, FR, ICFCP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Brian,
Like I said, I appreciate your input, but I checked autotrader for
'97-'99 Boxsters within 25 miles and 4 came up. Prices ranged from $15K to
$21.5K. I could get a Honda S2000 for that, only problem, I can't afford
the S2000. So, that must mean...hmmm.
RMS fixed? I'll bet the 986 and 996 owners will be glad to hear that! I'll
have to check out PPBB.
Best,
Tom

A 97/98 Boxster would be a great choice and definitely in your price range
... and the RMS problem has been fixed. They use Cayenne gaskets and they
don't leak! Sounds to me like you are going to talk yourself out of
anything because of what "might" happen mechanically.

True, and thank you, Brian. I appreciate your advice, but but I just
don't have the downstroke (or the disposable income per month, actually) to
buy something newer/better. What would I like? Heck, I think I'd even plan
on getting a Porsche 911 RSA (MY '93 & '94 for those who don't know) but
then again, maintenance and front money, those cost at least $35K for a
decent one, and they're as rare as hen's teeth. Or a Boxster, but I don't
want to have the RMS go bad (again and again and ...) and spend $3K for it
to be "fixed". Again, more later.
    Best,
    Tom

      Tom,
True, but anything you own is going to run you an average of $1,000 a
year when it is all said and done. Tires, brakes, oil changes, etc. all
factor into the average. So you spend $1,000 a year on a Camaro/M3/944
Porsche, etc. or $5K all at once every 6 years on the Ferrari? And why not
do a majority of the work yourself? If you have the free time to look for
something as much as you do you can certainly get into maintenance on your
own. Most cars you are looking at (M3's, Porsche 944's or 928's, Miatas,
Camaros, etc.) are 10+ years old and are going to cost money to maintain.
If you want a car with minimal maintenance costs buy something brand new.
Just trying to help. I know you are a car guy and I hate to watch you chase
your tail (you'll never catch it).

        Brian,
Can you understand 'MAINTENANCE COSTS'? Like I previously said, if
I had the downstroke and could afford the maintenance, I'd either A) still
have Mario or B) have bought Dave's/Rick's/Matt's Euro Mondial.
        Sincerely,
        Tom
