Here's the corollary. For many years I have used this reductio ad  
absurdum when ranting about stupid overweening bureaucratic  
regulation: 'soon pedestrians will be forced to wear helmets'. The  
other day I was cruising home and here was this simple shit  
jogging... WITH A BIKE HELMET ON!  Rome was sacked by the vandals  
when it became too weak to defend itself after so many centuries of  
'civilization'. It won't be long now. The vandals are at the gate!.

As for pre-adolescent arrests - only once if you don't count that  
thing with the girls in the ravine after school. Some degenerate  
friends and I made a homemade rocket. We used the cylinder from an  
old can of bug squirter: the kind with a pump. Glued some cardboard  
fins on the side. Made our own gunpowder with charcoal and saltpeter  
(this was when little kids could still get ahold of chemicals and  
stuff) Used a fuse from a big disassembled firecracker (see kids  
buying stuff above).

Anyhow, on Launch Day it was windy....damn thing blew over and sped  
horizontally across three yards at lethal speed about 3 feet above  
the ground. Then the missile struck a neighbor's garage and blew up.  
I think it took out 6 or 8 windows, all told, up and down the block.  
The cops were not amused...
