Hey Dave: Go Karts? There were several tracks in the L.A. area in the early
1960's. I had a sprint kart with a dual carb MAC 10 2-cycle engine that was
clocked @ 77mph at the end of the straight at Adams Kartway in Riverside. Where
else could you have as much fun on Sunday for a $5 entry fee and $5 for a few
gallons of racing fuel. At the end of the Adams 1/8 mile straight there was
even a 'Monza' type banked corner. I paid $400 for the kart, disc brakes and
all.

Oh, I want to play.

Twice. Once when I was 10 and again for the same thing when I was 11. My
parents gave me a go-cart that would hit 70mph for my 10th birthday. This
thing only sit about 1" off of the pavement, had racing slicks, rear disk
brake, full front aluminum cowling, and a two stroke engine. So, where
could I drive it? Well parking lots and the very rare race (we lived in a
small town). So, I decided that our subdivision was basically an oval and
it was laid out quite nicely with 4 straights and 4 corners. Since I was
living in Indiana, it was natural to put 2 and 2 together and consider it my
own brickyard. I would make hot laps very regularly, but on two occasions,
someone called the police. After the 2nd incident (as my mother called
them), my parents took the go-cart up to my grandparents farm. Grandpa was
the deputy sheriff and they lived way out in the sticks. So, when I was at
their house, I could drive it up and down their road all day long. One of
their neighbors built and drove Friday night dirt track stock cars. On that
narrow country road with all of the twists and bends, a mildly hot go-cart
and an average stock car were fairly evenly matched. At least it appeared
that way to a 12 year old.

Thinking back on those days, it becomes very obvious why I got so many
tickets as a young driver.

While most on this list would find that bust reason for rejoicing a little
boy doing something normal - the media would turn you into a pedophile.
Just like we have a 6 year old boy being charged with sexual assault for
kissing a 6 year old female classmate. The height of absurdity. Or the
little boy (aged 9) charged with violating the schools "no guns" policy
because he pointed his finger at another child and said Bang! Bang! Or the
girl suspended for bringing a dull butter knife to cut her apple because her
new braces made it difficult to eat the apple whole - her mom put the knife
in her lunch bag.

I have no idea what they are trying to accomplish with that kind of nonsense
- evidently the local school teachers/principles are too stupid to handle
those kinds of things with out a "Policy".. IMHO, the people who come up
with the kinds of zero tolerance policy's that do the above should be placed
in a rubber room where they can't harm others! But I fear they are holding
a well paying administrative positions in some school system taking down
$100K + to destroy childrens lives.

Sorry about the ramble -

It would take the MSM about 3 days to find out I was busted, age 5, for
playing "doctor" with the little girl across the alley.
