Sounds like it might be a dirty or failing injector - dripping fuel in one cylinder. Try an injector cleaner.

Howdy,
First, make sure all the vacuum lines are in place properly and not
damaged. A vacuum leak causes all kinds of running problems. If these
hoses have been in place for nearly 20 years they may have dried out and
become brittle. Also check the ignition settings to be sure they are
correct. If the timing is slightly retarded it can cause run-on.

Also, you wrote that you <<<tried messing with the fuel/air mixture

result. There's a procedure to flow when adjusting the fuel/air mixture
which normally requires a gauge of some sort.

    Good luck -

Subject: [Ferrari] 328 run on

1 own a 1987 328. For some time, I have had a very slight run on after I
turn the car off. I have tried messing with the fuel/air mixture to get
rid of it but it won't go away. Sometime, it is just a slight poof after I
turn the car off and sometimes, when the engine is hot, it almost backfires
and sometimes, it sounds as if the engine is trying to start up again.
Anyone run into this problem before and if you fixed it, what did you do?
Thanks.
Jim
