My Corvette did this for years before I found what it was, although unlike yours, mine was a warm-start problem. It ended up being a poor electrical connection from the battery to the solenoid. Like you, if I waited, the car would start immediately. The problem was that the wire was bad to begin with (from age, and some exposure to water), so as I drove the car and the wire heated up, so did its resistance increase. When I went to leave my next destination, there was no longer enough voltage, even with a strong battery, to get the solenoid to engage because of the high wire resistance. If I left for two hours and came back, letting the wire cool and the resistance drop, it would start immediately. It was frustrating and embarrassing for years. Could not find a pro mechanic who could figure it out. Luckily, it did it in my driveway one morning which gave me the opportunity to put it up on stands and start checking the electrical myself. -- charles -----Original Message----- From: Tom Reynolds [mailto:kjtar [at] cox.net] Sent: Wednesday, May 30, 2007 10:54 PM To: Charles Perry Cc: The FerrariList Subject: [Ferrari] Please help with no start condition? Dear Listers, Dear Gentle Listers, Wife's car has a stubborn and reoccuring problem. She puts ignition key in, turns, no start. No cranking noise. BUT, most of the time the car starts right up like it's supposed to. Last Saturday she just drove from home to a clothing exchange, maybe a 6 or 7 minute trip. Parked car, did whatever, came out, tried repeatedly, car no start. I came over, put key in ignition, varoom. Starts right up. Turned off car, tried again, started again. Towed to repair facility, they couldn't duplicate the no start problem. Picked up the car, had to start it twice, no problem. Took car to her work so she could drive it home. Guess what? Yep. No start. I couldn't even start it. Called tow truck, driver says when he got to the repair facility he was able to start it right up. ?????? Car is '90 Acura Integra GS hatchback. Starting system (alternator, battery, starter, etc.) was pronounced OKAY. Help?
