I believe the govt's mass of seething flesh has a single GREAT fear - that the masses will discover we are better off without them. Remember the great train wreck of a few years ago when the govt shut down? COngress called it the bigggest catastrophy since,..well, ever! Yet it was a time of blissful peace - no new laws promising to prevent some or all of us from doing something we might enjoy. It was 2 weeks IIRC, that must have been agony for news crews covering Congress - if only we could have prevented them ever finding the nerve to pass another mountainous budget - we might have entered an extended time of relaxed, happy citizens.
Hmmm... if only we could cut the congressional pay and benefits from the budget or at least reduce it to some sane levels - then we could go back to the time of short term gentleman leaders who govern for a few years then go back to private life - never to be heard of again.
but they're never going to cut their own throats -- it's like expecting them to police themselves -
And the best they can do is exempt themselves from the new laws they pass -

Daaaaaaaamn....

"The new civil charges will range from $750 to $3,000 and be added to existing fines and court costs. The civil penalty for going 20 mph over the speed limit will be $1,050, plus $61 in court costs and a fine that is typically about $200. Virginia's traffic law is one of several thousand new state laws that take effect Sunday. Jan. 1 and July 1 are the most popular dates for state laws to become official."
- VA is also the only state where radar detectors are verboten. Another good reason to bypass the place entirely.
- "several thousand new state laws" Mother of Jesus! - don't these wretched bastards have anything else to do???? Must we have laws, edicts and regulations governing every single facet of civil society? Can't these power-addicted minions go home once in awhile, sip a little beer on the porch, maybe pull up some dandelions? LEAVE US ALONE FOR GOD'S SAKE!
