I believe the prevailing practice of financial institutions is normally not to advise customers about this [presumably remote] possibility under state law.

BTW, most states also post information about such property in the Internet (besides advertising periodically). See, e.g.: http://www.missingmoney.com/

(Now you can waste some time checking whether you or relatives/friends can claim property.)

Does any one know if this is clearly stated on their safe deposit box lease??Have any of you ever had this brought to your attention by what ever institution at which you may have a safedeposit box?

   Do you suppose that it should be the banks responsibility to remind
   you every year when they send you your bill that this could happen to
   you if you do not check in every xxxxx period of time? If they are
   mailing you a bill/statement anyway would it not be easy to do this??

   Are their any bankers on the list who might be able to address this??
