Well right now I'm golden...back home and plugged in using simply the
CrappyCable modem and an ethernet cable. Interesting: I'm getting 5.3
mbps on the wire, when I hijack another (weak) wireless signal, the
only reliable one, I go to 0.2 mbps. So the IPS feed is getting
through to the modem, if I experience fits and starts I will think
the modem is the culprit. If I don't I'll eventually go wireless
again. But for now I will stop wasting Ferrari bandwidth.

Yes, I have had a faulty cable modem that gave me slow speeds....a new one
fixed me up. You might also try rebooting both the modem and router.
