Hey cLyDe: Times change, my man. My uncle Jessie T. Hill, the then head 
football coach at USC, integrated the Trojan team in the early 1950's. I guess 
he got tired of being beaten by UCLA and Notre Dame every year. Uncle Jessie 
was born in Harlen County Kentucky and you know what that meant back in the 
early '50s. The Trojan's first trip to the 'solid south' was to Austin to play 
the U of Texas. The team hotel which he had booked in advance wouldn't allow 
his 1 Black player to stay, so uncle Jessie told the manager to 'stick it' and 
moved the entire team into a Black hotel across town.
BTW, uncle Jessie's dad, my grandfather, Emmett Hill NEVER spoke to his son 
after that.
Take that for what it's worth, but from where I sit ... times and people do 
change.

Ted Williams hated blacks,huh?  Oh, really?  Funny, when you read the
transcript of his Hall of Fame induction:
 "I've been a very lucky guy to have worn a baseball uniform, and I hope
some day the names of Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson in some way can be added
as a symbol of the great Negro players who are not here only because they
weren't given a chance."
(For those of you unfamiliar with Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson, they were
two of the stars of the Negro Leagues who were unable to play in the "bigs"
before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947.)
If you're going to disparage a man's character, especially one who served
the country honorably in two major conflicts (something I'd think you'd
understand, Clyde, especially as the man was a naval aviator) I'd think
you'd want to know a bit more about the man first.
Just my $.02.
