Hey A.J. I've only met and talked to one ex French Foreign Legionaire in my life. It was at the old Great Western Gunshow at the L.A. fairgrounds and he had a table selling Legion memoribilia. He was about 5'10" and 160# of solid muscle. By just his demeanor and the way he carried himself, I wouldn't call the Beret 'gay-looking' within 50 miles of him. Have you ever seen them do their slow, arrogant Legion March? It puts the fear of God in me. Man-for-man, I'd put them up against the SS, our SF, Delta, or anybody else. Yer pal, Ferrari Bubba -----Original Message----- From: A.J. Merrifield 101pdt [at] gmail.com Subject: Re: [Ferrari] Off topic threads Yeah, but the Kraut tankers also had those frickin' gay-looking black beret/helmet things early in the war, too... Blech! (Hell, a beret is bad enough, whoever thought something made of black wool with no conceivable function whatsoever would make a great daily piece of headgear was a moron, but to combine it with a helmet... Yuck!) - A.J. Better ask cLyDe the details though. He says I know nothing about German tanks, especially Tigers. The standard Luftwaffe officer's garb was pretty good, also. Very stylish. The Brits used to say that that is what the Bosch hadâstyle. But, the Kraut's had some clunker uniforms alsoâ.like the all-black, dominatrix style SS officers uniform, or the fag powder blue one that Goering sometimes wore. ÂIs it just me or do others think that the uniform thatÂour Army General was wearing when he was on TV all this week looked a lot like that kind of the(former) General Field Marshal and President for LifeÂIdi Amin used to wear when he was the dictator of Uganda back in the 1980s? All our General needed was a couple of sash orders and a riding crop to be exact. Tacky! IMHO, I think theÂKrauts in WW2 had the best looking officer uniforms of all time. A grey/green tunicbuttoned at the neckÂwith just the correct amount of medals and breast orders, maybe even a Knights Cross worn on a ribbon around the neck, a black belt with either a Luger or P-38 in an attachedÂhard-schell holster, matching riding breeches and high black riding boots. Top this with a high arched officer's peaked cap and there you have it. -----Original Message----- From: JAshburne [at] aol.com Subject: Re: [Ferrari] Off topic threads And here I was thinking that "off topic threads" was about clothing that doesn't have Ferrari logos on it! ;-) John  In a message dated 9/12/2007 2:17:45 P.M.
