I agree with Dennis.  I wouldn't go further than $8k
or so though.  Having restored a 308GTB (in
cooperation with Ric Rainbolt) I can tell you that if
you restore it, you will have up to twice its restored
value invested.  Then again, I have done just
that(multiple times)because the fun-factor can have
great value (to me).  Therefore, Big D's suggestion of
cleaning up the cosmetics and fixing/stabilizing the
mechanical things that can cause catastrophic failure
- will give you a fun ride at a manageable price. 
Then you can still part it out and recover your costs!
