Guys, I have no desire to get a Smart Car because for the same money you can get something a bit bigger HOWEVER I can't see the argument about them being deathtraps. How many of you would want to get hit head on by a "small box truck" in a mid 80s Ferrari? You really think the steering column isn't gonna nail you while your legs are crushed in the footwells by the pedals? If you were looking for safety absolutely none of us would drive a Ferrari over other choices. How much really protection do you think you get in a side collision in the older cars that a lot of us drive? I think its a stupid argument about the car being unsafe because you might get hit by something bigger than you....you also might not get hot cause the car is so damn small! You might get hit in the parking lot of Home Depot by somebody backing over you in one of those stupid large trucks that every numptie has the need to drive in the USA (including my Mother so don't start, I hate trucks they are a waste of everything especially driving passion!) In many large cities over here the Smart works great, traffic speeds are low, the congestion charges are lower as are the road taxes and unlike motorcycles/mopeds/bicycles ect you have a roof over your head for all the crap weather. They turn on a dime and can park nose in to the crub legally (like a motorbike). Its a neat little car although pricy... Lets talk about neat cars instead of trashing them, those of you that want to live the "what if I go outside and get hurt somehow?" lifestyle should STAY INSIDE. I bet when Steve J is going 90mph in his F40 he ain't thinking what happens when he hits a box truck! And neither is Clyde when he is roaring around on his Ducatti. Listen to yourselves man! Live a little! Drive a small car, take a chance will ya! You should see the new Fiat 500, its fantastic, its tiny and I would challenge anyone not to love how it drives. Oh and any of you guys so worried about unsafe little cars, if you have a 1970's Ferrari Dino well heck you ought to give it away cause those things have ZERO crash protection built in, Zero airbags, Zero stability, Zero super strength modern steel engineered in any sort of safety cage yet whens the last time any of us said I THINK I WILL GIVE THE DINO AWAY CAUSE ITS A DEATH TRAP....OH NO HERE COMES A BOX TRUCK! SShheees, Have I made my point yet??
