Subject: [Ferrari] 308..Great thread

Great to see all the 308 enthusiasm, I knew that it was there, maybe we are all starting to realise the value of these cars, no it probably will never be a Daytona or a 365 BB, and i certainly will never have the panache of a Lusso or a 250GT PF cabriolet, but, 1) They are emminently drivable , usable and all most affordable. There is no such thing as an inexpensive Ferrari, but then there is nothing else quite like a Ferrari.

If you pull into a service station in your 308, all any one around you
knows is that it IS A FERRARI.
If you go to the Cavallino or to a National Ferrari meet, then just
  don't park it next to the 500 SuperFast #1 or a 275 GTB 4.

From my experience, a well taken care of 308 will never dissapoint you
unless you have an inferiority complex.....and that ain't the cars
fault....you probably have problems with wimmin too.

I truly hope that this current thread stays with us for a while.
I have a 308 GTSi for sale, you can read about it in the FML or you
can see it on my web site,
[1]www.philvilleUSA.com it is an 81,000 mile euro car and I can give
you a dozen reasons not to buy it. How ever I can probably give you
twice that many reasons that you should consider it.

  REasons not to buy
  1) It is a euro car ( Probably better, faster and yes it has it's
  papers)
  2) It has had 4 owners ( I have known each of them and to a man they
were all Ferrari enthusiasts who knew what they had.
  3) I have inadequate service records and can not document the last
major service ( Do a major service or any part of one that you can do,
this car should really go to a hands on owner, how ever, I might add
that I have had the car examined by a local Ferrari guy who I value
and who has owned his own 308. He tells me the car is fine, he thinks
  it runs great.
  4) The tires are metric as are the wheels and the tires look like old
original tires ( The tires may well be original, the first owner
tracked the car frequently he is a Track Master and instructor and
still owns Ferraris the second owner liked the top end which he seemed
to find quite frequently they used a set of BBs wheels which the third
and fourth owners did not get, but those were more interested in the
car off track, and used the original wheels and tires....I would
estimate that 90% of all the miles were put on using the
BBs's........buy another set of wheels, there are more wheels avail.
for the 308 than any other Ferrari.
5)It is fitted with an Accu Sump ( If you do not know the value of
a pressurised system that lubes your engine befor turning over, and
adds 4 qts. of oil to your sump, then maybe you are not really ready
  for a Ferrari.
6)It has 51,000 miles ( That may be why it runs so well, and besides,
how many of those sub 20k mile cars out there are really sub 20k mile
  cars?)
  7) The AC makes luke warm air....( That may be because the last time
the system was charged was 1992,none of the owners gave a s*** about
cold air, and at best, they would make 65' air any way.
  8) The windows are slow ( Thats OK, the AC doesn't work......but they
can be fixed, at least they work)
  9) The radio doesn't work ( The antennae does not work, listen to the
exhaust, or, put another antenae on, they are better now anyway.)
10)It does not have ALL the tools, and books. ( Well it does have most
of the tools, the tool roll, the jack and jack bag the owners manual
the pouch and a few other things.)
11)What if it needs a major service? ( It probably should have a major
service, but you certainly can not tell that from driving it, in fact,
I might even be talked into driving it to a delivery to the right
  customer under the right circumstances.
  12) I will probably have too much money invested in it. ( That should
not come as a surprise, it is a Ferrari and you should expect that.
The best way to avoid that is by not buying any Ferrari.

Seriously all of the above may well be normal issues, but this car is
a great car and to the right buyer it will be perfect. It runs at
least as well as any 308 that I have ever driven, it drives flatter (
and this is on old Mich X's). It looks great, runs great it just isn't
the perfect car that you wish you could buy....I have that also, but
at a much higher price. You will need to ask me about that one, but I
will tell you it is an 85 Red tan sub 20k miles extremely
  documentable and needs nothing.

Think about it, I would like to see it stay on list, and will make
certain concessions to another lister if they promise to keep me
  posted about the car.

If you think that this is all BS, ask Rick
I may not have told you, but the car belongs to the widow of one of my
customers, I really want to sell it for her, we are asking $29,800.00
I will take less ( esp from a lister) I have turned down 25k.

And always remember, there are awhole load of people out there who
will never ever even be able to even think about owning a
Ferrari....at least we can give it serious thought. So enjoy your car
even if it is a s*** box.

  Thanks , Phil
