1981 308 GTSi.: My beloved 308 has a major prestone leak. It only leaked when the engine runs. 20 minute ride loses 3 liters of prestone. So, I figured it was the water pump. I took the right rear wheel well out. All I could see was a drop of prestone hanging from a screw (bottom-center of the water pump). With the car up on a jack, I started the engine and had someone check where the leak was. The leak is only from that screw only. Does that mean it’s only the gasket ? Can a mechanic fix it through the right rear wheel well ? How much time is required to take the pump out ? I’ve had the car for exactly 6 years, I have no idea how old is the pump. Should I still replace the pump even if the verdict from my mechanic says it’s only the gasket ? Rutlands on Ebay has a pump for $625. Good price ? Should I go for an alternative ? Funny thing is, as I was driving yesterday, I kept saying to myself “enjoy the ride, this is the last weekend, I’ll store it for the winter next weekend”. AAAAAARRGGH!
