Re: Ferrari vis Rolls Royce

As the old quote from Hogan's Heroes goes: "Verrrry Interesting.

For whatever reason, I thought Matt and I were the only masochists who would
try to maintain both a Ferrari and one or more Rolls Royce automobiles.

Actually, though current construction of a new garage will cure this, it is
the MB 450SL that moves interchangeably with the Ferrari 348 as they stack up
to utilize what would normally be a single spot in my present garage. The
house, being on a farm, has an 800' driveway so i don't quite have Matt's
problem of curiousity seekers wandering up to wonder what I am doing playing
car
jockey.

As for maintaining multiple Rolls Royce and a Ferrari automobile, the
expression of "glutton for punishment" is the penultimate understatement. We
should
be named under the defining characteristics of "Masochism" in the DSM-IV(TR).

I'm still waiting for a long cross-country trip in the 348. This summer I
drove the Silver Cloud III from KY to TX and back in ten days, with vacation
and
car meet stops, as well as a National Historic Site, along the way. This car
simply epitomizes the old school British "club" atmosphere as well as the
almost colonial atmosphere where one thinks they should be sitting on the
veranda drinking gin and tonic in the sunset. I hope to make many more such
long
trips in this car, it is, in some ways, what many folks tell me about a cruise
with the travel being part of the vacation. And, of course there is room for
Blackhawk in the back seat. Actually he looks like the aristocrat being
chauffered around in his motorcar with a footman to tend to his shore needs.

I haven't had the luck to be able to take the Ferrari on an extended trip
yet. And, with taking Blackhawk with us everywhere, and looking into the
"cavernous" trunk, I know that Audrey wouldn't be pleased with the wardrobe
selection that would fit within it. On the other hand, I look at the 348 as
being
visceral, almost a "scrotum on four wheels". It will be a drive somewhere for
an overnight stay, or more likely, a vacation where the Ferrari is towed
behind the motor home and then taken out for drives along the interesting
backroads along the way.

I guess the ideal vacation would be to tow a much larger enclosed trailer
that would hold both cars. But then again I'd probably be caught stopped in a
highway rest area unloading the Rolls Royce to get the Ferrari out of the
trailer by a befuddled highway patrol trooper <vbg>
