Quote below from Dr. Steve: "Dave, not too long ago I read that Glock handguns had injured more police officers that carried then (due to accidental discharges), than have shot bad guys while in the hands of police officers. Personally, though I know that they are less expensive than a Sig, I don't understand why professionals whose life may depend on this particular tool at some phase of their career would choose to carry a Glock, but many do. It must be the same reason why some folks drive Vipers and Corvettes rather than Ferraris." Steve, I am unsure what kind of bullshit you are reading, but that statistic is so full of holes that even a guy with as many abbreviations after his name as you should be able to debunk that. First, police officers have always historically negligently discharged their weapons more than they have shot bad guys. No big news there. Almost every cop I know draws his weapon on an almost daily basis, but none of them have ever shot anyone (and I personally know of a couple cops that have ND'd their issue pistols, and no, they were not Glocks). So, with all this gun handling, do you think the chance of a negligent discharge goes up? Also there are more Glocks issued to LE than any other gun...probably around 75% as of today. So certainly there is a larger data base of incidents with Glocks overall than any other pistol in general issue. Glock pistols do not cause police officers to negligently discharge their guns into themselves. The Glock pistol works EXACTLY as designed. Press the trigger and it will launch a bullet into whatever you are pointing it at. So what is the problem? Violation of the Universal Firearms Rules: 1) All guns are always loaded. 2) Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to shoot. 3) Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target. 4) Be sure of your target and what is behind and beyond your target. Most all professional gun men have a great respect for the Glock pistol, whether they own or carry one, or not. Unfortunately, there are a lot of gun owners (LE included) who are not as "professional" in their gun handling as they should be.
