Howdy!
We all know about Enzo's seeming disdain for road cars believing they were
only a means to allow him to persue the racing he loved so dearly, yet he
produced so many "drop-dead, take your breath away gorgeous road cars (race
cars too!) there must have been enormous pride in what he was constructing. I
guess when you put your name on something it had better be special!
IMHO, the 60's saw Ferrari produce some of the most spectacular designs
during this relatively short time span. The 250GT series of models, which
included the Lusso and my favorite of all time race car: the 206SP which
appeared in red (naturally) with yellow steel wheels and was powered by a V6.
That color combination was awesome! Along with these he produced the 400 SA
we've been drooling over as well as a number of others. Some produced by
Ferrari by the celebrities at the time were,....hmmm... less that spectacular
but none the less were very innovative. And of course the 330 road cars were
some of the more successful road cars.
The 206SP morphed into the 330LM series (IIRC) and on the road car front
they produced the 275 series of road cars - the GTB and GTS (S. McQueen owned
one of each) were 2 of the Ferrari's that left a lasting impression on me.
The GTB was so manly and the GTS so feminine - how the designers and
coachbuilders captured those attributes is beyond me but I guess that's part of
the magic.
Sure, the 70's saw some amazing designs also - like the little 312SP sports
racer that won something like 12 of 13 races in 1972 was obviously a very
successful design along with the evolutionary but less successful 512 series.
But for me it was the 60's that held the magic. ;-)
Sorry I rambled on for so long - Have a nice week -

Me too!! I saw one in the same color on a flatbed going through NYC a few
years ago. It may be the same car, as these are rare to begin with, and that
car is obviously not driven.
