Hoses that run in the V of the 550 engine fail because of the heat (I imagine that's even worse in the USA where its warmer than good old UK temps!) About 8-10 hours work to replace them. Only other issue is cost of parts. A radiator is 6-7 thousand pounds here in the UK (that's about 12,000 US.). I do know several people that have used the hell out of them and they are pretty durable. Don't forget the lowly 400/412 series cars. You may not know this cause there are few in the states and probably fewer that know how to work on them but these things will do HIGH miles with very few problems. 70-80 thousand miles cars are common here and they still run strong. The engine/drivetrain of this series Ferrari is amazingly robust. Remember this was a car built for daily use and with a 17 year build history they did have time to get the things right. Britt I agree with most of what was said except that the 550's had no teething problems that I was aware of BR in the UK 1986 328GTS (LHD 89,940km) Died August 19, 2006 Shrewsbury UK 1980 400i (RHD 72,000 miles) Searching for the right 512TR 2003 BMW 530d 1991 Alfa Spider S4
