Paul - 1. Ignition Switch Relay. I did this to resolve the GEN light problem. I originally thought it was a problem with the alternator, but discovered that it was caused by resistance in the ignition switch. The GEN light was being lit not by current flow from the battery to the alternator (via the ignition switch), but from current flow in the opposite direction. I thought about simply putting a diode in there to fix the GEN light problem, and replacing the ignition switch. It just turned out to be much easier to simply wire in a 30 amp relay controlled by the ignition switch. For future repairs, replacing a relay is much easier than replacing an ignition switch. And I'm lazy. 2. Ignition Relay. Probably not needed. I just wanted to make sure that no high drain on the ignition switch relay output would cause funny things to the ignition system of the engine. Added layer of isolation for peace of mind. 3. ATO fuse panel. I agree that is a much better solution. I put the rubber bands on there as a test. I'd had an intermittent problem of the instrument panel suddenly going crazy on me, all the gauges going wacky. Problem disappeared as soon as I added the rubber bands. One of these rainy days I'll change out the fuse panels. 4. Window Relays....come to think of it now, I am not sure how many relays I used. Number required depends on whether they are SPST or DPST relays. I think I used SPST versions, as those are common with the rest of the relays used on the car. 5. Headlight mod. Sounds like you misinterpreted my flowery language there. Sorry. The mod was to stop the headlights from popping up when the parking lights are activated. Good idea concerning pasting the modified wiring diagrams somewhere. I don't really care that much about the next owner, as I will be dead by then...but I should do it for my own sake...may not have alzheimers, but I've definitely got halfheimers. I use ATO fuse boxes and indicating type LED fuses which are latest fuse technology for reliability. >4. Window Relay Set. ... I made up a set of four relays to provide power to >the driver side motor. " Why 4 relays since 2 work reliably. >5. Installed Headlight Mod." Here again, 2 relays per side gives great results. No need for higher wattage headlamps as my former 2.3v drop is now under 0.5v from battery. I do expect bulb life to suffer but as often as I drive a night not a valid concern. >6. Removed electrical bricks... I think they controlled the 'Slow Down' >lights. " I've been trying to think of a use for those two innocent unused indicator lights. Suggestions? A worthy electrical modification you didn't mention was to cause the parking lights/side markers acting in unison as turnsignals without hindering their function as parking lights. Again requiring 2 relays per side. I have one additional superflous relay and pb on/off switch in glove box to turn parking lights on/off without buckets opening on my whim and if on,turn off automatically when engine stops. If I ever do this job again I will implement a dedicated single chip processor and fiber optic communication between I/O modules. FYI, adding 15 or so relays (didn't mention the remote keylocks system) requires astute shopping and I found Weytech has German made Bosch heavy duty relays in the sub $3 range. Incidently, I am laminating diagrams to place in the doors. As yet unsolved, a workable method of fastening the panel over the fuses with a simple push or pull to lock/unlock knob. Velcro doesn't work.
