IIRC there's a lot of you out there interested in airplanes -
Watched a special about the ME262 - the German jet fighter that became operation late in WW2. Seems the engineering was pretty creative on them - they had leading edge flaps which extended by *gravity* when speed dropped below 150knts and retracted at 200knts IIRC. Sometimes simple works the best -- They showed a technician adjusting the ball bearings the flaps rolled on so they didn;t stick - which had a tendency to cause the flaps to stick - very bad when only one sticks - which was usually the case -
