My car had a similar issue...here is what was recommended to me. (I'm sure
it applies to your 2+2 just the same....)

Check condition of wires.   If they look OK, start it up in the dark and
check for Arcing between wires. 

Check condition of Distributor rotors.

Check condition of points to make sure they are not 'sticking' or worn.

Check plugs


I checked the plugs 1st and that was my culprit.   Hopefully it's a simple
thing...

Unbelievably...all the windows and gauges work.

It's got a serious miss at 3500rpm that I'm trying to chase down. I
re-tightened (and reconnected) all of the spark plug leads and checked and
gapped all plugs to .030 yesterday. It improved a bit, but still not
right...

Fresh gas has been used as well.

Any ideas?
