Check the ignition system first as others have suggested.

Take an atomizer bottle with water and spray the wires when the engine  
is warm and idling. Preferably at night. If you see a light show  
you've found the problem.

Check the plugs, as well as the caps rotors. Check the carbon brushes  
in the caps and look for signs of carbon tracks.

If the leads on your timing light are long enough, hook it up and run  
the light into the cabin. Drive the car and when it misses, see if the  
light is erratic.

This will help determine if it is fuel or electrical.

Just some random thoughts from the trenches from someone who deals  
with these sorts of things all day everday.
