The high Gs and the low oil level sounds like a recipe for a mess for sure! Hehe, my 348 was more reliable than almost all the cars I've ever owned. Who says they have issues? Maybe when the 348s were new, but not in 2008. Honestly, my exotics (Ferrari and Lambo) and my domestic cars have been more reliable than any of the other German and Japanese junk I've owned. I'd take a 348 for reliability over any post 1995 Audi/BMW/Benz any day of the week! Do you ever make it out to DC? We need to do a Lister track day. What's up with the 308 Reunion? Can we crash it with other Ferrari models? What was Spitzer thinking? Honestly I remember it burned a quart on a roadtrip from Dallas to Houston (also the fuel sender failed completely about 2/3rds the way there and for my entire stay in Houston, It beeped at me every 15 mintues to tell me I had no gas!). The spun bearings were likely due to many high g-load runs on the back sweeper at Motorsports ranch, the stock car could pull about 1G, mine was lowered, had wider Hoosiers, and I drove it very hard. Probably the G loading let the engine starve on oil too many times, combine that with being down on oil a bit after 2 days and many sessions... If they had not told me the bearings were spun I would not have been able to tell It drove well felt like all the horses were there when you wanted them. The C6 Z06 addresses a lot of the C5's shortcomings, dry sump engine oiling, diff cooler, and better brakes all around! Only thing missing in my mind is a tranny cooler, since I would get the overtemp for both of those if I ran the car up at its limits for more than 25 minutes. Overall my C5 Z06 was less reliable than my 348 :) I think mine might have been the exception, but I know a guy who had an 02 which blew its motor also... I was wondering if you had experienced an actual "oiling" problem regarding the circulation and lubrication of oil through the motor. My old RX7 would burn a quart every 300 miles and a gallon of gas every 8 miles in the city. It was actually topped off by the Chevy dealership the Friday before, and checked out the following Monday with the main bearings on 7 and 8 spun. It was a 2001 (red of course). Interesting Mike, haven't heard of many oiling problems with the LS motors. Any chance the car was low on oil before you went out? BTW-What year Z? Bob, Did you ever have the rings worked on in your Z? My Z got so that it burned a quart of oil every 300 miles before I spun the main bearings at Motor Sport Ranch one summer... Just curious... Actually, the gap on the plugs in the picture is 0.60in., and is the recommended gap. I checked the plugs I took out, and they were all right around 0.60in. Gap had not changed significantly in all those 102,124 miles. I set the gap on my 308 plugs to 0.45in, as I have electronic ignition installed. Seems to work fine. Bob -- "Robert W.
