Yea Ken: White? Yea, so was my Jaguar XK-120MC. But that was back in the '50s
when Masten Gregory was driving his non factory Maserati 250F with the same
American livery. White with blue racing stripes,Âour national racing colors.
That was before before Colin Chapman sold out toÂa tobacco company and painted
his Lotus cars either to resemble a red & gold box of smokes, or maybe a
Chinese whore-house. I don't remember which. Racing has never been the same
since. What a shame.

I loved GP racing when the Green carsÂwere fomÂGreat Britian, Lite Blue for
France, Silver for German, and Italian blood Red for both Ferrari and Maserati.
And remember when the cars had actual numbers on them, instead of every sqare
inch being covered with sponsors' decals? The only way I can tell who's the
driver nowÂis either by the helmet design as the car flahes by at 160mph, or
the color of the camera pod, sticking up above the drivers head rest. Ach, for
the good old, uncomplicated days.

Masten might not have been the 1st American to invade Europe but he was
theÂfirst to make a real impact over there. In his 1st F1 season, (1957) he
raced 4 times as a privateer, placing 3rd at Monaco in his 1st Grand Prix race
ever, andÂtwo 4ths,Âat Pescara and Monza. He finished 8th in his other start
at the old 14.2 mile Nurburgring. Not bad for a 24 year-old from Kansas City.
In his 1st Sports Car race at Reims in 1954 he drove a Ferrari 375MM, andÂhad
a hard time convincing secutity that he was a driver. They wouldn't let him
into the pits because of his youthful appearance and small stature. He finished
2nd.

Yer pal, Ferrari Bubba
