My rear bushings were done with the accident repairs, I just have to do the
shocks there...
Ill try to remember to send a link to a good write up on doing the suspension
bushings by leaving the outer sleeve intact.

I'll give that a try. That would make things a lot easier.
I've got new bushings for the rear, along with sway bar bushings and brake
lines. Just need some time to devote to rebuilding the rear suspension. Front
is all done.

Actually, Suspension.com now sells the bushing "guts" so you can leave the tack
welded 'outer sleeve' and slide the new bushing inside. Makes for a MUCH
easier rebuild!

If you are using the poly ES bushings, I'd recommend disassembling them. They
come apart into four pieces (outer metal shell, inner metal shell, poly sleeve
and poly donut bushing). Then you can weld the outer shell to the A-arm
without damaging the poly sleeve that sits between the inner and outer shell.
Re-assemble using the supplied grease.
The bushings are a full floating design, so the inner metal shell (fixed to the
car frame A-arm mounts) is supposed to rotate with respect to the outer metal
shell (welded to the A-arm). Lubrication is required.

Larry,
I'd love to see that picture!
So, should I not even use the lube that ES supplies?
I've heard that the poly bushings can squeek pretty bad sometimes.

Hi Jim,
I always use 2 tools to break them apart - I have a screw type seperator
that I tighten down - that puts great tension on the fitting - then I use a
fork tool to whack the ball joint - typically, they break loose in 1 or 2
whacks -
I'll try to find a photo of the screw type tool I use.
Of course, heat will probably help also -
;-)
BTW, I've been told not to use lubricants on any new rubber bushings you may
be installing, - supposedly they need the grip that WD40, etc removes.

Hey guys,
I'm right in the middle of rebuilding the suspension on the GT4 and
installing a new 2.5 turn steering rack. I'm having a helluva time getting
the ball joints off of the hub carriers. I've soaked them in penetrating
oil and broke a ball joint tool already trying to hey them apart. Does
anyone have any ideas??
If you are interested, check out the 308 section of FChat for pictures.
Ill post some here soon.
