This car was purchased 7+ years ago from fellow lister Steve Levine with 22,500 on the clock. It now has ~51,000 miles on it.
This car is NOT an all-original collectible (one would argue that no Mondial is worth collecting anyway) hit Delete right now if what you want is all original or something considered collectible.
What it is, is a very-reliable daily driver - and I *know* some would also argue that no Mondial is reliable, but the history of this car, plus what I've done to it, say otherwise. You get in, you turn the key, and it just *works* - like a modern car. :-) It's only been flat-bedded (towed) *once* and that was my own darn fault as I ignored the warnings of a failing fuel pump (blowing fuses) until the pump failed solid.
See: http://www.employees.org/~fty - there are hi-res photos there plus a detailed web page about the EFI conversion. (More photos available on request, including with roll bar installed.)
The car currently has a roll-bar installed in the back seat, but it's borrowed. So, if the roll bar is desired for tracking, I'll put you in touch with the owner.
The car was originally delivered in Germany (Euro spec) and was "federalized" by the original owner. It has an EPA sticker saying something about catalytic converters, but has never had them. The rest of the import process involved putting steel reinforcement in the doors and adding yucky corner lights.
I have all the original books, paperwork, tools, and maintenance/import records (from Steve) - a folder about 1-1/2 thick.
The car has been extensively worked on/modified since I've owned it, including:
Full EFI conversion (Nick's Forza/Electromotive http://www.nicksforzaferrari.com/forzaferrariwebsite1_010.htm )
Wideband O2 sensor (Innovate Motorsports http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/ )
Stebro Exhaust (stainless)
16" wheels from an '89 Mondial (*exact* same offsets as the original crappy metrics)
Gas tanks removed, tig welded and re-installed
Power windows "fixed" with relays and direct wiring to the doors and back windows - they run better than new
New clutch
New starter - NOT the original Fiat piece of s... but a new, geared, nippondenso with lifetime guarantee
( http://hometown.aol.com/martingf/Ferraristarters.html )
Rebuilt clutch slave (needs a new clutch master, in the process of dealing with that)
Halogen headlights
LED tail, brake, license and corner lights
Hill Engineering "Slick" shift gate and shift ball (Nice! http://www.hillengineering.co.uk/catalog/index.php)
2meter/70cm dual-band "ham" radio (available if you are licensed to use it)
CD player (Pioneer) and 2 Sony 100watt amps (which I never use .. )
On paper it has the horsepower of a US Spec Mondial t (348 engine) - people that have owned the t have driven it and agree.
Power comes on at much lower RPMs making it very drivable at low speeds. Then, when you put your foot in it ..
If you want to go nuts, it's ready for you to bolt on one of the two Super Charger kits available (see Ferrari Talk) and the EFI system is there to handle the fuel requirements. You sidestep the problems of using the original FI pump and risk running lean. The ECU and sensors are there to handle the boost, air density and knock detection. Included is an old ThinkPad (it has a real serial port) for programming and monitoring the ECU as well as an Innovate Motorsports LM-1 mixture tuning box and air/fuel ratio meter, and an extra wide-band O2 sensor. There is an O2 bung in each bank, but the ECU only handles one sensor, so the second bung could be used for monitoring.
Please contact me privately if interested and I'll fill you in on the rest of it's history and condition.
(voice: 919.392.2101 anytime, Eastern US) - I'd like $30k but will entertain reasonable offers.
cheers,
- Frank
