I had something similar happen 10yrs ago with my 85 308.  It turned out to
be a VERY loose fuel pump ground wire.  The pump would intermittently run,
causing everything from complete loss of power to intermediate hesitant
continuous running.

Don't want to be alarmist but my Mondial QV still ran
after stripping a cam belt - granted it was running on
only one bank...
