Well, I can't speak for Larry but as for me, 37 years of Porsche to include a '51, the 529th car built, and 12 years of Ferrari means 'Car Guy."

It was the way Tibor and I talked our way into the Ferrari factory on the first day of Italy holiday in 1979. In those days, we could take pictures - just a small audience by a very well dressed fellow who signed his name Pierro.

In 1979 there were four of us in a motor home at motor camp Icici, on the Adriatic. Billy was the first to go home - So after dropping off Billy at the Ljubljana airport Tibor sez, what now? Sez I - Off to the Ferrari factory. We arrive just before noon and there is only a friendly guard who didn't speak English at his desk. By hand gestures and so forth - be back at 1:00 - English speaker." Ok and we venture across the street to a small pizzeria - the Cavalino. Just a small deli - cute place.

At 1:00 I bring my camera back and start taking pictures of the F1 car - Jodi Schecter on one side and team member #12, some wild man, Gilles Villeneuve, on the other - two for the price of one.

So about that time a fellow comes out of a door down at the end of the hall and asks - what may I help you with? We would like to see a little bit of the factory - ahhh, well, do you own a Ferrari? No. Ahhh, do you work for Ferrari dealer? No. Do you work for an independent Ferrari shop? No. Ahh, um, well the you have (waving at the ante room and the single F1 car) seen a little bit of the Ferrari factory. gulp.

So I say to him - both of us own Porsches - and in the heart of the Porsche driver the last car to own is a Ferrari. Ahhh, I see. Well - - - looking at his watch - I could give you about 45 minutes - is that enough? SURE - can I bring my camera? OK.

What a trip. Nothing going on except as we crunch crunch crunched across the interior yard on the crushed rock a siren when off for nearly 10 seconds - at 1:10. I commented - end of the lunch hour? No, testing an engine. If it holds together, we ship it. Gawd I love it - so I-Talian.

Those were the days,
DOUG

Hi Larry

That's very interesting, but why would a bunch of Porsche owners be
interested in pictures of Concorso Italiano events?

They would be planning any sort of bombing of the event, would they?

John

Hi Gang,
Don't know if ya'll are aware of this resource since it's primarily
located at a Porsche vendor - but they have a large section of photos/images
from a variety of motorsports events - they have several of the Concorso
Italiano events preserved through lots of digital images for any who wish to
see/save them.
