Pretty basic. Visual to make sure that nothing is leaking or obviously amiss.
Not really too worried about mechanical problems. If the car dies, worst that
can happen is being stuck on the side of the road watching the other cars go
by. Before leaving for Texas, I swapped over to my race set of tires/rims,
taking time to inspect the suspension components.

Big thing to check is the tires. If a tire blows at 160mph....you are in real
trouble. Off-road experience is guaranteed...and this car is not an off-road
vehicle. Hitting the desert at 140+ can be fatal. we have lots of safety
equipment (roll bar, helmets, horse collars, fire suits, 5-point harness,
etc.), but if you go off-road, all bets are off.

Night before, we overinflate the tires to about 44psi and do a rolling
inspection for nails and debris. Before leaving the hotel, I bleed off excess
pressure to 36psi, checking for variation. Visually check tires at every
opportunity before getting to the start line. I had to pull out of a race a
while ago because we found a self tapping screw in the rear tire at the start
line. Turns out it had not penetrated the steel belt, so it was probably OK.
But no sense taking the chance.

Replace the tires every three years.

Bob, this is awesome!

Please tell me what your pre-race prep involves. What do you check? Timing
belts? Coil springs? :)
