There are many tools where buying Snap On is worth the money.

However, there is a lot of stuff that they sell, which they buy from other MFR's, put their name on it, and mark it up accordingly. I suspect compressors are probably one of those items, although I could be wrong.

As for air compressors, if you want something that will last, avoid the 'hobby' brands (sears, Campbell hausfield, etc) and go for a commercial grade unit.

I have an 80 gallon 5 HP 2 stage compressor, that I bought in 1985. Other than minimal maintenance has needed nothing. It is made by Dayton Electric.

If you want quality - choose compressor with a motor that runs at 1700 rpm
NOT 3400 rpm
That is the instant measure of quality, reliability, life, trouble free
operation.
Costs a bit more but worth it.
