Ugh, I can record two shows and watch a previously recorded show with my Dish
DVR on one tv and watch another previously recorded show on another tv all at
the same time.

Just remember another difference between TIVO and DVR.

TIVO you can record TWO channels and watch an old program
at the same time. Try that on DVR. Many times good shows
are intentionally placed opposite each other. And I don't
watch anything live...watching behind allows skipping over
commercials easily. Turns an hour program into 37 minutes.

In the past, I also posted questions about Tivo, DVR's and DVD recorders. It
seemed easiest for me to get the Dish DVR which has 150 hours of recording for
$5 more per month and the Wal-Mart X-mas special $50 DVD-R (Magnavox) to
permanently record anything I wanted to keep. I now also have the $130
Magnavox for the downstairs tv. Why the Magnavox units? Cheap. Allowed me to
record copyrighted stuff that my brother's Sony unit couldn't. Don't know
exactly why but probably Sony encoded a bunch of their stuff? I guess if I
wanted better recording quality/HD, I could spring for the more expensive unit
but I was happy with TUBE tv's for the longest time. Also, someone told me on
the list that the Dish DVR records in the best quality to its hard drive. It
was explained to me on the list but I don't remember.

There are some features I like of my brother's Direct TV HD Tivo, but not
enough to warrant me to switch from Dish. Too complicated for me to figure out
how to hook up all the stuff.

Make sure you record anything you really want to keep permanently ASAP. I had
my hard drive fail in my Dish DVR after 3 years and lost a few things. Good
thing I saved most of what I wanted before. Replacement was free but now I am
even more diligent permanently saving my programs to DVD. (Did I just jinx
someone?)
