For the record - I have big balls, but not that big!!! I rarely require assistance carrying them around, but have been known to allow a girl or two to help me with the load from time to time.

Just got home from NJ. Where I "relaxed and recuperated" by moving the boat from Sag Harbor to Atlantic City - so she could go in the shop for service before her 'big' ride - from New Jersey down to Florida next month.

To make everyone feel better about THEIR fuel consumption. The ride was just over 8 hours / 150 miles. It was a perfect day - only light rollers - so we we able to cut directly across the ocean from the Shinacock inlet on Long Island direct to the sea buoy off of Atlantic City (a route that took us around 40 - 45 miles offshore). For the most part we were running at 24 knots - at 2000 rpm. At that speed we were burning between 25 and 30 gallons of diesel per hour. Refueled when we got to Atlantic City and took on 325 gallons at $4.25 per - with some negotiation for cash, we got that bill down to $1200.

The trip down to Florida is similar - but for 10-12 hours a day for 5-6 days - about 1250 miles (depending how far up river we have to go each night to find dockage). Total fuel is about 400 - 500 gallons per day and is expected run as much as $5.75 or $6.00 per gallon at some stops. Total gallons around 2500 total cost about $15,000. Makes even the F40 seem economical.

I thought it was cool that, while we were out in the ocean, it occurred to me that for 90% of the trip we were further offshore than boats would dare to sail just 700 years ago, in the 1400's, before Columbus. For about 6 hours we were not only out of sight of land - but could not see it on radar (although we could have had a glimpse of the shoreline on the radar's highest settings).

As for myself, I am feeling much better. So far results of the follow up blood tests show that my hemoglobin and red blood cell counts are up, although still not yet normal (but much better than the OMG you need to go to the hospital because you might die level) and staying consistent. My iron level is way up (although, since it was zero, there was no way BUT up). I go in for a follow up capsule endoscopy next week - to make sure that everything is healed properly. I am still tiring easily, but the docs say that is to be expected over the next month or two - while more than half my blood is still other peoples.

Thanks to everyone for their concern and wishes. And, donate blood - the life you save might be MINE (especially if you are O+).

Guys,

Scottie has been in the hospital due to some discomfort in his lower
extremities and other spooky symptoms. Turns out he had a small tear in his stomach roughly where the esophagus meets the stomach. (For us car guys,
that's here the fuel filler neck meets the tank). He had some quick
endoscopic surgery and is feeling much better. He didn't tell us here on the list but I just wanted everyone to know he is doing much better and should be back to normal (whatever that is for Scottie) .......I thought I would send my best to him in writing while letting you guys know as I know you
will do the same. GET WELL SOON SCOTTIE!!!!!!!!! Call me if you need
anything my brother.
