I sell a product I believe is modelled on a Brit product called WaxOyl. It
comes with a 3 or 4' length of tubing that is inserted into a hole drilled
into the rocker, chassis or other hidden area - it is promoted as being for
areas that are not accessible once the car is assembled. A similar product
is sold by Moss Motors - a vendor for all kind of Britiish sportscars. It
is sprayed as a liquid and turns to a waxy coating as it dries.
IMHO, - miracle products not with-standing - if metal is exposed to a soup of chemicals and salt it will rust - unless it's aluminum in which case it will do other nasty things ;-) unless it's rinsed with water pretty soon after exposure.
But I'm not saying my product (or the others) won't prevent rust - they will provide some level of protection - but they need help if they are to stop rust completely.
If you garage is heated the undercarriage should be power sprayed to get the chemicals off before it's put to bed. The reason for this is the great chinks of ice that are full of chemicals will stay frozen if left outdoors - but if brought inside where it can thaw the ice/snow blocks and the chemicals in them will thaw and run everywhere gravity will take it - leaving a trail of nastiness everywhere it
YMMV ;-) Sincerely, Larry T (74 911, 91 300D 2.5T) www.youroil.net Oil Analysis Kits & Porsche Posters/Weber parts .----- Original Message ----- From: "E M" <pokiebaron [at] gmail.com>

There are lots of things to help slow rust, but if you subject metal towater and salt, it will happen. New Ferrari's have lots of aluminum, but ittoo can oxidize. The Brits use a thing called Waxoil, which they sprayeverywhere and spread on their toast too. I think Mercedes use a wax basedcoating too in places like the engine bays. Maybe they sell it at the dealer. I didn't see the episode you're talking about, but for it to be effective,it's probably done while the car is all apart and being restored. Probablywouldn't want to subject such a car to winter $$$. If you drive it in the winter, maybe use a power washer, let not too high, and hit the wheel wells weekly or so. Watch the electrical connections whenusing water under pressure. Also, make sure all the drain holes in the doors etc, are clear of mud, dust and leaves, so water can drain. Oftenthey clog oer time, even if the car was kept clean. Water will run down theinside of the doors and things, and pool. By the the time you notice the bubbles on the outside in the paint, it's only the tin worms holding hands that's keeping the doors from falling off. :-) Maybe pick up a couple of British car mags, see what products are offered besides Waxoil. They seem to drive everything year round over there, so they might offer more tips. Oh, I don't drive my old 911 in the winter, but ever few years, I do take all the relays, fuses, electrical connections off, and coat them with dielectric grease. Salt and water love such places and tracing electricalproblems can be a pain. Don't forget to clean the grounds too, and a dap ofthe old dielectric grease on it too. I've never had a single electrical problem on my car, and it's almost 30 years old!! Good luck, winter in a Ferrari sounds like great fun!!! :-) Ed 911SC 2008/11/9 Rodney Ramos <ltwacko [at] aol.com>How do you rust proof? Anyone use the system recently featured in Dream Car Garage on a GN? I guess I should have been clearer. I'll drive anything inwinter especially w/snow tires but repairing rust is a pain.
