did the DVD release of Rendezvous. I've simply ordered direct.

It's certainly always a good idea to have as much lubrication going on
in any mechanical device, but consider that your engine is not much
worse off than one that has sat for a few months. Nearly all the oil
drains back into the sump eventually. Cold starts rely on that bit of
oil residue sticking to the bearings (helped out by additives put in
the oil specifically for that purpose).

That said, you could probably reap some benefit by pouring oil down the
oil filter hole. But not much. You could possibly work some fresh
oil into the bearings by continuing to pour into the filter hole while
rotating the crank. But remember that the bearings will not be under
near the stress that they would endure during those first few
seconds after a cold start. Prefilling the oil filter would be extremely
messy and a lot of it (but not all....) will exit when you invert it.

What is potentially more worrysome is the lack of oil on the cam
lobes. Cams typically get their wear resistance from a thin case-
hardened layer, but I've heard that Ferrari cams may be a bit tougher
than most. Your new head may have some assembly lube there, but
the existing one doesn't. Again, not much different than a car
that has sat unstarted for a few months.

Hans.
