Thx Dennis - Good article -

The Seller sounds like quite a guy - very realistic in his assessment that the ROI he rec'd was very acceptable and understanding that Tom S was infinitly more qualified to restore it even if he *had* known what it was.

So many would be complaining about how much more he perhaps *should* have rec'd - but he looked at it properly. IMHO

Here's an article on the Ferrari 340 America barn find/eBay auction. Really
classy position by the seller.

BTW, there's no "d" in Tom's last name - it's Tom Shaughnessy

Dennis said << take whatever time estimate he gives you and multiply it
by 4. Or 7 or 8. >>>

I think that's kind of an undercurrent of the show - on all the promos and
as part of the shows themselves Mr Carini makes a point of the limited time between when he obtains a car to sell and when the auction begins - usually
comments of "we only have 4 days until the auction," or, "there's only 7
months until Monterey".

Yes, it appears Mr Carini is pretty well known in the exotic car auction
world as he seems to get cars into places like Monterey and Peeble Beach
without much drama.

And yes, you;re certainly right about him knowing he stuff - as well as
knowing many of the characters of the exotic car world - including a visit
to O'Shaudessey's farm showing some interesting stuff laying around - that
segment told how O'Shaudessey's bought a car on eBay billed as a old kit car

(a Devlin?) that had a early (like early 50s) Ferrari chassis (not
mentioned in the ad) - which had run at LeMans and other places. He saw in

the photos of a steering box that made him believe the chassis was a early
special one and spent around $27K to buy it. But I assume he had a strong
feeling it was the chassis he thought it was to spend that kind of money to get. IIRC he thought the chassis might being as much as $1MM after resto -
I guess that's how you make money in that business - with knowledge!

on that same progam Oshadessey picks up Carini at the airport in a 54 375MM
(1 of 14)! Wow! What a car!

I was surprised to find this program and the MM documentary only shown on
HDTHR - a station I've never heard of before now. They*do* show a wide
variety of HD programming -

Have a noce Sunday!

Chuckles, thanks for copying me on this.

Re the Mille Miglia special, it was pretty interesting watching. I'm
friends with a few folks who've run it, including a couple who appear in
the
show, and to a man, they all swear it's the adventure of a lifetime. It
surely is. One friend demi-seriously asked me if I'd be interested in
navigating for him, but I pointed out, with infinite sadness, that I'm
about
7" too tall and a good 70 lbs too heavy to fit as a passenger in his
166MM.

Re Chasing Classic Cars: it's certainly pretty interesting TV. The
producer of the show is on Fchat, and you can read more about the series
there. Wayne indeed is a friend of mine, and he's worked on one of my
Ferraris. As I've always said about Wayne, he's a great guy, and does
fantastic work, but take whatever time estimate he gives you and multiply
it
by 4. Or 7 or 8. that doesn't detract from the show, of course. I also
happy to know a few of the other guys that have appeared in it. There's a
lot that the show ISN'T telling you, but, hey, what reality show ever
does?

Interesting that we hadn't heard about this before. I think our own Big
Head is or was a customer of F40 Motorsports. Sounds like a neat show. I
need to get my dish re-pointed so I can get the rest of my HD content...

Hi all -
I upgraded to digital TV last year and this month bought a HD Plasma TV
- when browsing the in screen menu I was tanatlized by the HD channels
unavailable to me since I didn;t spring for the HD box - finally a
channel called HDTHR kept showing program titles I could resist no
longer. Got the HD box and curently there are 2 very interesting
programs - a 2 hour documentary about the Mille Miglia and a regular (I
think) called "Chasing Classic Cars" about a guy who owns a place called
F40 Motorsports in Ct - he travels around the US buying and selling
classic and sports cars. Christmas day brought a marathon of programs
and I saw a couple I had missed. One was about a genuine bran find -
they pulled a 37 Bugatti from a barn also containing a Jag and RR - the
Bug was last licensed in 1962 NY - the owner said it had stayed in the
barn ever since 62.

It was taken to a big east coast auction and the F40 guy was bidding on
behalf of a customer of his. It went to $750K before they dropped out.
The car was a "Type 57 Atalante" if my memory is correct - they didn't
even wipe the dust off - sold it exactly as it was found. The new owner
intends to keep it that way - only respraying the wheels and some of the
fenders where the paint was long gone - saying it'll never be restored
as long as he owns it. Bravo! The way it should be IMHO.

For Ferrari content - he also bought a 330 Coupe (not sure about the
numbers but it was late 60s) which was gorgeous - he took it apart - he
seems to do a lot of hands-on stuff according to the camera - and had it
re-painted in beautiful silver. He also reunited a man with a Daytona
Spyder he bought new in 73 - then crashed heavily in it and the car was
totalled. While in the hospital the insurance co took possession and
evidently auctioned it - it was bought, properly repaired and showed up
in Az where Mr F40 found it and called his friend who had owned it - he
bought it and it was taken back to it's original color and the rest of
the car restored - the owner also owns a coupe in the same color so will
have a pair - a coupe and a spyder to display.

Anyway - the MM is a special program also - one of the best I;ve seen -
of course there's not many to choose from. They had comments from S
Moss which were very interesting - he's always a character. ;-)

Anyway - hope everyone is having a great Holiday - Merry Christmas and
have a Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
Larry T (74 911, 91 300D 2.5T)
