Removing master cylinder reservoir question and FOA good experience--will do!

Robert,

Will do. I appreciate the help. However, to pull straight up, I will need a
tall friend to do it. I have to lean over and don't think I can physically
pull straight up.

Thanks,

good experience

Wade, is a great guy and has helped me many times. I removed my res once and
was told the same thing. I just sucked the fluid out and pulled straight up
on it. It was amazingly tough

I spent about a week trying to clean it out as one side is hard to get into.
I ended up through advice i received here i think putting a few small ball
bearings in that side and filled with water

shaking it around to get out the stains! and this was on a 75! I think yours
will come out, put towels around in case any fluid gets on your paint!!
There are two outlets so dont pry at an angle just

pull straight up!

Rob

My 328 has a brake fluid leak in one of the two rubber grommets that attach
it to the master cylinder. I was on a trip and the brake failure light came
on because of low on brake fluid. Wade at FOA (great guy) had the grommets
in stock but said it was likely the plastic reservoir would be broken when
it was removed to replace the leaking grommet. Any tricks to soaking the
grommets so you don't break the reservoir when you remove it? I drove the
car back because I couldn't spend an extra two days in HotLanta, one to
break it and one to order the reservoir from New Jersey, so I have to get it
fixed in Memphis. I bought the grommets I just need the reservoir removed in
one piece.

I stopped by FOA twice, once on the way to Florida because of the brake
light and once on the way back and both times they worked on my car right a
way to get me back on the road. Although they didn't find the brake leak on
the first visit, because I'm sure they thought I was just low on fluid, they
quickly responded and helped me out. Overall a good experience with FOA. I
wish I would have known there was another dealer in Tampa I would have
brought it by there, after knowing it just wasn't normal brake fluid usage.

Please respond offline to CaptRehkopf [at] comcast.net with any suggestion for
removing the reservoir.

Thanks,

Robert Rehkopf
