Right on Paul, I am a mechanical engineer and tried for 12mo to figure out a way to take our new home as far from the electical/natural gas "grid" as possible. All the usual suspects: geothermal, hybrid, solar electric, solar hot water, etc. As a General Contractor and Internet geek, I found the best deals possible, typically 30-50% below consumer pricing. Even with these numbers, and assuming natural gas here in Colorado increased in price 10%/yr, the geothermal system had a 25-30yr payback, with a 10yr equipment guarantee/life, the solar electric had a 25yr payback with a 20yr panel life and was only big enough to power 2 of our refrigerators. The only system with a decent(5yr) payback was solar hot water. Thus, we now have a 3" natural gas service supporting 4 natural gas furnaces, 400amp electrical service, and are now fully embracing the "grid", and waiting for huge government subsidies to make us go green...... Like the windmill farms which have require 20 years to payoff their cost and high maintenance, oh yes, they have an expected life of 20 years. Roof-top hot water systems are the only viable energy capture device I've heard of which is actually cost-effective. Plus the subsidies which still support ethanol was justified against $8/gal gasoline. Y'all hear about the Minneapolis school but debacle mandating buses use bio fuel which gels at winter temperatures so they now must heat the bus garages. Net loss. Green has always meant inexperienced and lacking wisdom. Still holds. _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/misc%40308systems.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/
