I believe that the last of the "boom" is really over. Here in the Midlands the local Ferrari dealer was bought out by Nick Whale in August '08. This past week Nick sold the Ferrari dealer, his BMW dealers and Porsche dealerships to Penske who runs a number of Ferrari dealers in the UK. Reason? The Ferrari dealer hasn't sold ONE car since August. Not one! Supposedly it has lost him millions of pounds. The dealers service departments are empty. Greypaul (The biggest UK Ferrari dealer and also owned by Penske) has been ringing FOC members asking if they want to bring there car in for a service. They are offering "deals" because the service bays are empty. This is being reported across many dealers. No service work being carried out, no cars being sold..... Its ugly and getting worse. The UK is one of the 4 largest markets for Ferrari (may be the third actually), behind the USA and Germany. Regards BR I don't have much authority to chime in on this thread, but I've have it on good authority that in a limited production car like the Scuderia, having the "livery" is essential to resale value. As ever, don't buy the car for the next guy and if you plan on driving it forever, let it be what you want it to be. Me, if I'm silly enough to dive in, resale value is very important -- and its the very public collapse of the Ferrari resale market that's given me cold feet. I had been tyring to jump through hoops with the local Ferrari dealer to get a Scuderia. Then they announced the Spider version (I'd still rather the coupe) and the resale market fell apart, the Alfa introduction was a flop and Maserati resale values are only getting worse. I question the business acumen of the current Ferrari management -- following on the 360 overproduction with producing too many F430's just seems to exhibit a learning disability. I think 2008 will go into the textbooks as the year that suspended disbelief, denial and "too good to be true" will finally make their way into the education of children along with concepts like compound interest on investments and interest on debt as well as recognizing the weakness in their own fear and greed. Here's hoping! : ) All that said, when I found out the stripes were "extra" (even though they're the visual signature of the car) I took the $8500 to be a challenge to see just out far out of touch I am with reality. Still, I would rather put the extra $8500 into the car with the assurance it would be returned in a quick resale at the upper end of the resale valuations. Personally, I don't mind Panaerai, but I don't like wristwatches with branding. It reminds me of that guy whose unfortunate photograph showing him in ferrari shirt, shorts, hat and shoes in the paddock looking just a little bit too silly for words. _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/britt2asa%40aol.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/ BR in the UK 1986 328GTS (LHD 89,940km) Died August 19, 2006 Shrewsbury UK 1980 400i (RHD 74,000 miles) Searching for the right 512TR 2003 BMW 530d 1991 Alfa Spider S4 LHD 1993 Alfa Spider S4 LHD
