Hey Rick -You wrote <<low-production marques in that good ideas aren't refined into great ideas. The makers just can't afford to do so.>> You just described the business strategy/Race Car Building Strategy at the Colin Chapman School of Engineering. After all, he developed the practice of building a car that would cross the finish line then break. Because that's as far as he needed it to go -
And about your driving <<I tend to over analyze and by the time I have things figures out, the manovure is past>>
Ed thought this was the Prost method of driving but to me it remiinded me of the way Lauda described his years in F1.
BTW, if you run acrossany of them, Lauda wrote 3 or 4 books about his time in F1 - all of the books were very entertaining but I especiall enjoyed "The Art & Science of Grand Prix Driving". All of his books are excellent - they provide great detail about the set up of the cars and such if that is interesting to you. He also tells about his relationship with Enzo and some of the tricks he liked to play.
He presently has several books on ebay including Meine Story - which some might conclude means the text is in German - nope - all English.
Also - F1 - The Turbo Ageand N Lauda, Picture Book of GP Racing (something about this doesnt look right - I have a book with the photo of the BBi on the cover and it's not by Lauda..

You are, of course, completely right about most drivers Mike - including us. In fact, I am 'le tres shitty pilot' so I don't even try to compete. I tend to over analyze and by the time I have things figures out, the manovure is past! I am a scientist, after all. So how do I handle this?I don't. My fascination with Ferrari (and cars in general) is the science and engineering. I build engines and I restore cars. I rarely drive them. In fact, I find (older) Ferraris to be typical of many other low-production marques in that good ideas aren't refined into great ideas. The makers just can't afford to do so. However, my beloved BMW is worse when it comes to their older M-series cars. Those cars are nightmares to keep at peak performance. I tried to make an E30M3 a daily driver and it almost bankrupted me.So I guess I would recommend that before you call me a 'poser' because I'm a non-competitive driver, try one of my engines. :-)rick PS: No black mold. New house. Nice and dry. _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/l02turner%40comcast.net Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlineshttp://www.F1Headlines.com/
