Not only should owners/buyers of high performance cars be required to attend

a performance driving school, but IMHO every driver should have to attend
one.

I know a 355/328/365/512/911 Turbo/etc/etc have very high performance - and

you're right - you (and probably many of us on this list could correct our
way out of a spin - but the vast majority of drivers cannot control a spin
whether they are driving a new Enzo or a used Pacer! And that 3000+#
Pacer could do as much damage to me if I get in the way.

Did you know Brumos Porsche provides a Porsche Driving School certificate
with every Porsche purchase? And they have no shortage of buyers - until
the recent economic problems of course.

IMHO the drivers license standards are woefully inadequate whether you will
drive a 55 VW Beetle or a new 911 Turbo. Both will kill you and others.

There's a excellent program on the History Channel called Modern Marvels
with a segment on the Autobahn - there are a coupoole of reasons they can
allow unlimited speeds. For one, the roads are nearly 3' thick as opposed
to approx 1' here. Also, licensing requires approx 18 months and costs
around $2000. It's not something Johnny gets in an afternoon after shool
when he turns 16.

A few years ago there was a great State Farm commercial where an agent tells

a parent they will not insure Billy Bob to drive that 400hp Z28 he was given

for his 16th b'day. Why? studies have shown he is 80% likely to have a
serious/fatal accident within 2 weeks of getting behind the wheel of that
high performance muscle car. Think a lot of power is dangerous in a F355?
Try it in a muscle car that can barely go around a curve!!

That old joke about trouble following when a redneck says, "Here, hold my
beer and watch this!" contains a large amount of truth.

  Have a nice weekend -

Sincerely,
Larry T (74 911, 91 300D 2.5T)
